This was a legendary independent recording studio in the late 1970s and 1980s.
Alvin Clark, British music producer, sound engineer and keyboardist and Peter Rackham, audio engineer (piano, keyboard), were the musician-owner of that legendary “Sound Suite Studio”, at 92 Camden Mews, London.
I used this famous "Sound Suite Studio" for the production of two songs.
Peter Rackham: Piano & keyboards
Colin Dudman: Arrangements, piano
In 1986 Colin Dudman and Dill Katz founded their own famous PREMISES STUDIO
Peter Boita: Drums
"Hansi" Hans Georg (H.G.) Lang: Vocals
In 1978, the British post-punk band The Fall, among others, recorded their groundbreaking debut album, Live at the Witch
Trials, there. Clark also worked as a sound engineer for the London punk/new wave band pragVEC on their EP
Expert in 1978.
Career Milestones:
Around 1978, an early, detailed demo of "Video Killed the Radio Star" was recorded at "Sound Suite Studios", Camden, London, engineered by co-studio-owner Peter Rackham, served as the blueprint for the final record and helped the group, later known as “The Buggles”, get signed to Island Records.
However, the final commercial single (the one that became a massive hit and MTV's first video) was tracked and
mixed elsewhere:
The instruments were recorded at "The Townhouse" in West London.
The vocals, overdubs, and final mix were completed at Sarm East in East London.
The Buggles, formed in 1977, first consisted of Trevor Horn, Geoff Downes and Bruce Woolley.
The 1978 demo version of "Video Killed the Radio Star" featured British pop singer Tina Charles on lead vocals.
Tina Charles is a British disco singer. She is best known for her 1976 song "I Love To Love."and "Dance Little Lady Dance". Her chosen stage name of Charles was a tribute to her father,
Charles Hoskins.
Trevor Horn, co-writer and producer, briefly became Charles's boyfriend, and he studied the techniques of her producer, Biddu, who made Tina Charles
number 1 single, I Love to Love (But My Baby, just wantes ...), in 1976.
Charles star power helped the band secure their record deal with Island Records.
For the famous 1979 single released by The Buggles, Trevor Horn took over as
the male lead vocalist.
The original songwriter was Bruce Woolley.
A few years later, Tina Charles aka Tina Hoskins, recorded a number of
singles in 1969 backed by then unknown Elton John. In the very early 70's she was in the female pop trio Wild Honey as well as recorded a large number of anonymous lead vocals for the Top Of
The Pops series.
"The Sound Suite Studio" was also heavily used by new wave and indie icons like Lene Lovich, Tuxedomoon, and The Monochrome Set.
The Monochrome Set (1980): Peter Rackham served as an engineer on their 1979 track "Boom Boom".
The Monochrome Set Apocalypso/Fiasco Bongo Dindisc, 2/10/1980 ...
For the album *Love Zombies*, Peter Rackham not only handled the engineering and co-production, but also contributed the keyboard parts.
Major pop hits (1980s): In the years that followed, he mixed and produced global hits at Sound Suite Studio, including the synth-pop classic “19” by Paul Hardcastle (1985) and “Free Nelson Mandela” by The Specials (1984).

He had also teamed up with lyricist Al Price to write a collection of quick fire pop/rock/ska nuggets that would be fine-tuned into the album 'Savage Music'.
Lene Lovich: Rackham contributed as a recording engineer on releases like No-Man's-Land.
Colin Dudman: A highly respected British jazz and session pianist / keyboardist. He has spent decades performing with top-tier jazz musicians, arranging, and contributing keyboard tracks to various pop, rock, and jazz fusion projects like Barbara Thompson.
During this era, it was common for top-tier session musicians like Ronnie Caryl and Colin Dudman to use indie hubs like the Camden Sound Suite to cut tracking demos, collaborate on solo projects, or record pieces of commercial pop records away from the more expensive corporate studios.
Leo Sayer and Colin Dudman produced music primarily at "Sound Suite Studio", located on 92 Camden Mews, Camden, London.
In 1986 Colin Dudman co-founded with Dill Katz his own famous recording and rehearsal studio called "The Premises Studios" in London's Hackney district.
Sayer began his musical career as the leader of the London-based Terraplane Blues Band in the late '60s. He formed Patches with drummer Dave Courtney
in 1971.
The Core Connections:
Leo Sayer: The Grammy-winning British singer-songwriter who dominated charts in the 1970s. Both Ronnie Caryl and Colin Dudman crossed paths with Sayer's orbit as part of his live touring band backing or recording personnel during his peak eras.
For example, Dudman and Caryl both famously contributed to recordings for one another’s circles—such as Dudman playing keyboards on Ronnie Caryl's solo material (like his album Leave a Light On).
Peter Boita went on to have a highly successful career as a premier UK session musician, later serving as the resident drummer for the West End production of Les Misérables for 25 years! + he had a broader session career with artists like Elton John.
He was the drummer for the Les Humphries Singers
and worked with the popular European pop group primarily during 1975. While he originally contributed as a studio session musician, he also toured heavily with them.
Key facts about his time with the Band:
The Era: He played with the group during 1974 and 1975 when they were a major "European phenomenon," regularly filling stadiums across the continent.
Live Performances: He famously played drums during their live sets—including a BBC Television "In Concert"
special—using a custom double bass drum setup.
Boita went on to have a highly successful career as a premier UK session musician, later serving as the resident drummer for the West End production of
"Les Misérables" for 25 years.
Peter Boita's broader session
career with artists like Elton John:
UK session drummer Peter Boita has not been a touring or recording member of the official Elton John Band, which has historically relied on mainstays like Nigel Olsson.
However, Boita’s broader session career intersects with Elton's world through collaborative work with Elton John’s core collaborators, producers, and bassists.
Boita’s broader session credits and musical collaborations include:
• Sir George Martin: Boita worked as the session drummer on projects overseen by legendary Beatles producer Sir
George Martin, such as the Poetry in Motion album (setting Sir John Betjeman's poetry to music). This project brought together a roster of artists that heavily overlapped with Elton John’s
era.
• Herbie Flowers: Boita formed a rhythm section with famed session bassist Herbie Flowers, who famously laid down the bass tracks for Elton John's early, defining albums like Tumbleweed
Connection and Madman Across the Water.
• The Elton Story (BBC Radio): In 1976, during Elton John's meteoric rise, Boita performed alongside Elton (who was doing backing vocals) on cover versions for BBC Radio One's The Elton John
Story.
• Other Legends: His extensive session resume includes backing A-list stars like Madonna, The Jacksons, Whitney Houston, Sir Rod Stewart, and The Supremes.

NO 12) SONG “MARIA”
Words and Music by Hans Georg (H.G.) Lang
MARIA
(singing)
What a magic moment is this
A magic moment, sealed with a kiss
Is it real, or just fantasy?
A styrian oak and a Kennedy?
I love you, I love you, just we two
MARIA & ARNOLD
(singing)
Two hearts that beat as one
Out of a billion stars around the sun
Two hearts fly to L.A.
Birds on the wing on the way, a family
ARNOLD
(singing)
It’s beyond my wildest dreams
You brought me down to earth, clipped my wings
All my joy, I cry out loud
Let the world know, what it’s all about
I love you; I love you; just we two
MARIA & ARNOLD
(singing)
Two hearts that beat as one
Out of a billion stars around the sun
Two hearts fly to L.A.
Birds on the wing on the way, a family
ARNOLD
(speaking)
I’ll keep my promises
Sealed with a kiss
I’ll keep my promises
Learn what love is
MARIA
(speaking)
I’ll keep my promises
Sealed with a kiss
I’ll keep my promises
Know what love is
MARIA & ARNOLD
(singing)
Two hearts that beat as one
Out of a billion stars around the sun
Two hearts fly to L.A.
Birds on the wing on the way, my family
CROSS-FADE TO OUTSIDE – THALER LAKE – SUNNY (LATE AFTERNOON) …
The Lake, small and idyllic, lies beside the tennis court.
Actors: ARNOLD/Arnie, MARIA
ARNOLD and MARIA get onto the rowing boat. With heavy strokes he is rowing it through the water.
ARNOLD/Arnie
Isn’t it wonderful?
MARIA
(settles back)
Yea! It is! I like the silence, love Mother Nature.
ARNOLD
(thoughtful)
It was very hard for me to leave home, to leave all my friends behind.
MARIA
Wasn’t it worthwhile?
ARNOLD
Definitely! I could fall in love with you, Maria! I believe, I have, …
The ice is broken, it really burst. That’s why ARNOLD decides to take a chance and gets closer and closer, …
MARIA
(afraid)
Arnie, you’re rocking the boat, …
We keel over!!!
ARNOLD
If we do, I’ll carry you piggyback and swim wherever you want me to, Maria!
ARNOLD is as excited as a child at X-mas. That he could be the lover and protector of this charming, beautiful girl is beyond his imagination. And he believes it could last forever.
